Rainer Beach/Seward Park
Rainier Beach is one of Seattle’s most southern neighborhoods – and is one of the most ethnically diverse. Long known as a low income community that was a little rough around the edges – it is now a neighborhood with young families moving in and long time old timers welcoming them. All of the neighborhoods that are south of downtown have experienced a revitalization in recent years and that certainly holds true for Rainier Beach as well.
Seward Park wasn’t in need of significant revitalization due to the fact that it is a community that borders the park it was named for as well as boasting many properties with fine waterfront views. The most impressive homes in Seward Park were built on a ridge overlooking the lake, Mount Rainier and the Cascades to take advantage of the views. Farther in, the homes are more modest, yet because they are still within walking distance of the lake, the park and the scenery the home values are also quite high. Residential turnover in this neighborhood has historically been low.
