Mount Baker

When Seattle residents think about the Mount Baker neighborhood they might think about some of the elegant and stately homes in the neighborhood. Or the Christmas boat parade. Or the hydroplane races and the Blue Angels and all other festivities that accompany SeaFair weekend – a weekend where Mount Baker residents get a “front row” view of many activities.

The Mount Baker tunnel is known to drivers across Western Washington – especially those who travel on Interstate 90. Drivers heading west pass right through the tunnel before reaching the heart of Seattle, and drivers heading east shoot out of the tunnel and onto the bridge overlooking Lake Washington as they leave the city.

Civic activism is alive and well in this neighborhood. Residents take pride in the history and beauty of their community and have worked together to preserve many of the historical buildings in the neighborhood. The Mount Baker Community Clubhouse, another historic site, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is the epicenter for many of the community activities and initiatives.
