Kirkland/Juanita

Kirkland is another city jewel in the Eastside’s crown of cities. The city is becoming a top choice for folks out for an afternoon stroll or drive. The well kept downtown, populated with eye-catching art galleries, fun shops, great eateries attract many visitors throughout the Eastside and beyond. This city of over 45,050 residents has also earned a reputation as a place with great sailing opportunities and youth sports.

Kirkland was incorporated in 1905 and named after Peter Kirk – a British businessman who originally intended to turn Kirkland into a great steel producing town. And while Kirkland never did become the “Pittsburgh of the West”, it did become a ferry and ship building town.

As the 20th century began to draw to a close, Kirkland’s image evolved past its blue collar roots and emerged as an upscale beach town with an eclectic waterfront, a high median family income and an “in-demand” neighborhood .
Kirkland’s growth can be linked to the growth of the high-tech sector in the Eastside and Seattle. Kirkland’s location is ideally situated for residents to travel to neighboring cities for work.
