Hunts Point
Hunts Point is another small, largely exclusive upper class community on the Eastside of Lake Washington. Hunts Point was founded by Leigh J. S. Hunt, industrialist and publisher of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Mr. Hunt bought the property what is now known as Hunts Point from an old homesteader. The story goes he purchased it so that he could cut down the tall evergreen trees growing on its northern tip, which obstructed his view of Seattle. Whether or not that story is true, what is true however, is that the financially comfortable residents of this community take pride in preserving the natural beauty of this community.
The town of Hunts Point is one of the wealthiest, albeit tiniest communities in King County, with a median family income over $200,000 and a median home value of $1 million. The waterfront views of the many of the homes were mainly “man-made” out of a boggy marsh way back in 1916 when the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Ballard Locks were completed.
